Mobile’s mini health fairs happen throughout the year, and the one scheduled for February 20th is themed “Love Your Heart.” We love being part of Mobile’s health-forward community, and as such, we want to take the opportunity to remind you to get your hearing screened regularly.

Love Your Heart and Your Hearing
Your heart is the center of the cardiovascular system, which influences every other bodily function and process. Your organs, muscles and immune system all require a healthy supply of blood in order to function properly. Your auditory system is no exception.
The sensitive sensory cells in your inner ear that transmit sound information to the brain are susceptible to damage if blood flow is changed. This means that changes in blood flow, blood pressure or blood oxygen levels can all cause damage to the sensory cells, and when these cells are damaged, the damage is irreversible and leads to hearing loss.
Hearing Health Is Part of Your Overall Health
As you attend Mobile’s health fairs throughout the year, remember that hearing health is an important aspect of your overall health. Just like you get your vision tested, blood pressure checked and physical performed on a regular basis, so too should you prioritize a hearing screening. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that you get your hearing tested every five years between the ages of 50 and 64, then every one to three years after your 65th birthday.
Since maintaining your hearing health is a significant part of maintaining your overall health and well-being, take the opportunity to prioritize making a hearing test while you’re thinking of your heart health at the fair. Their close connection means that taking care of one is to take care of the other.
